A Word from the Superintendent

May 1st, 2020

PHCS Students and Families,

Governor Cuomo just announced that all New York school buildings will remain closed for the remainder of this academic year. The Governor was asked about a timeline for re-opening schools for the next academic year and he reported that it is too early to make that decision because it will be dependent upon the COVID-19 situation at that time.

We will continue to keep you updated as additional information becomes available.

Stay safe, stay strong and we will get through this COVID-19 situation together,

Dr. C

Dear PHCS Students and Families,

Governor Cuomo has extended the closure of schools (and businesses) until Wednesday, April 29th. At which time another determination will be made. The Board of Regents met this morning and decided to cancel the June Regents Exams.  Guidance for schools is expected to follow tomorrow.

I hope this message finds you and your family in good health.

Stay safe,

Dr. C.

Dear PHCS Students, Parents, and Extended Community,

Below, please find updates on three changes impacting the PHCS Community:

April Break - In an effort to not disrupt the food and instructional support provided by schools during this time of crisis, the Governor and New York State Department of Education have directed PHCS to continue teaching and feeding children throughout the April Break, including Good Friday.  All schools statewide have been instructed to remain closed and provide remote learning and food delivery through April 15th, at which time the Governor's Office will re-evaluate the situation. Based on the most current COVID-19 trajectory models, it seems unlikely that any determination would be made to re-open schools at that time.  PHCS was originally scheduled to be closed until April 20th in response to the declaration of a county-wide state of emergency.  The Governor's subsequent Executive Orders supersede all other local, county, and state agencies, so moving forward all New York schools will respond to Executive Orders.

Food Delivery - Beginning on Monday, April 6th, PHCS will switch from delivering individual meals of breakfast and lunch to delivering a week's worth of meals for each child. These door-to-door deliveries will take place once per week on Mondays.  In consultation with the Department of Health, 90% of the schools in the County will be switching to offering one week's worth of items for meals in an effort to further reduce opportunities for interactions where the Coronavirus could spread.

School Budget Vote & Elections - The Governor has postponed the annual school budget vote and board of education elections until at least June 1st, at which time his office will re-evaluate the situation. PHCS will be adjusting its budget notices and newsletter according to this new timeline. The Governor has also postponed the circulation, filing, and collection of any nominating petitions for school board candidates along with other offices until further notice.

We will continue to keep you updated as the school's response to this situation evolves.

Stay resilient Panthers,

Dr. C.
