Ms. Hudson's 3rd Grade Class
Welcome back to another great year at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. I hope you and your child had a wonderful summer vacation!! I truly look forward to working with your child. I’m sending this letter home as a way to share some expectations for the coming school year.
Developing literacy skills is a large part of what we will be working on this year. The expectation is that your child should read to themselves or someone else for at least 15-20 minutes per night. Consistency in reading will be the biggest contributing factor to increasing your child’s reading ability outside of school. We will also be working on handwriting, spelling, concepts of print, grammar, and in expanding your child’s vocabulary. One of the main goals is to be able to write in complete sentences and break information into paragraphs as a way to communicate. The focus in Math this year will be on basic multiplication, division, fractions, time, area, shapes, graphs, and decoding one and two-step word problems. Science will focus on structures, buoyancy, butterfly life cycle, frog life cycle, pollination, sound, and the solar system.
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Homework will be collected and graded the following day. With the exception of reading, I do not assign homework on weekends.
Attached you will see our schedule for the 4-day cycle. We will be having a “Snack Time” each day around 9:15 am as a way to help keep students focused and alert before lunch. Please, no soda or energy drinks. Students may have their own water bottles to use throughout the day.
As a way to minimize distractions and the possibility of lost or stolen items, I would ask that your child please leave all electronics at home. This includes cell phones, handheld game systems.
Please ensure that your child is prepared for school by having the proper clothing for the day. This includes boots, hats, gloves, and a jacket during cold days, and most importantly, sneakers for P.E. class.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at school; by phone, email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or by making an appointment to meet. I am very excited about the upcoming year, it’s going to be a great one!!
