School Lunches

A request went out for 4 parent representatives and 4 student representatives interested in serving on the group studying ways to make school lunches more appetizing.  So far, 12 parents, two students, one former student (and 5 people with no known association to the school) have expressed an interest in being part of the group. We would like to close the interest form by Friday; but, we still need two more students before scheduling a first meeting. If you are interested in being considered to serve as a parent or student representative on this group, please complete the form found AT THIS LINK by midnight on Friday.

PHCS has received many phone calls and emails with questions about what comprises a school lunch, portion sizes, and cost. Here are answers to many of the school lunch questions:

  •  All breakfasts and lunches are free for all students during the COVID pandemic.
  • Serving sizes are set by the National School Lunch Program and are the same for all public schools across the country (for more information serving sizes look for "Final Rule Meal Portion" at this link)
  • Serving size regulations have not been changed since meals became free.
  • PHCS is one of 20 school districts participating in the BOCES food service
  • Meals are prepared on site, not shipped to the school ready made
  • Every student lunch offers the choice of two "hot" meals with up to 2 servings of fruit AND 2 servings of vegetables.
  • If the hot meal options are not of interest, students may opt for one of 3 different types of salads (Caesar, Chef, or Garden) OR choose from 3 different kinds of   sandwiches (Ham, Turkey, or Peanut butter & Jelly).
  • All lunches come with a milk.
